PHILADELPHIA » Ardent Credit Union has completed a charitable donation-matching drive to support the people of Ukraine — donating $15,893 to two nonprofit aid organizations.

The drive was launched earlier this spring, according to Ardent.

The credit union told members is would match donations they made using their Ardent Debit cards, and would send the donations to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, based in Northeast Philadelphia, and World Central Kitchen, a global organization that feeds individuals and families in need.

“Like so many around the world, we were heartbroken as the humanitarian crisis began to unfold in Ukraine. Instead of watching idly, Ardent and our members recognized that we could help Ukrainians struggling to access food and medical supplies,” Rob Werner, president and CEO of Ardent, said in a statement. “We’re proud to have so many members who really embrace the cooperative spirit and joined with us to support these two organizations that are making such a positive impact in Ukraine.”

Donations made to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee will be used to purchase and deliver medical supplies to parts of Ukraine that are in need. The donations to World Central Kitchen will be used to assist the organization in its efforts to provide fresh and nutritious meals to struggling families in Ukraine, according to a press release.

Werner added that while the Philadelphia region is the focus of the credit union, “our mission doesn’t stop at its boundaries.”

“Ardent is committed to spreading the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people,’” he said.

Ardent Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative founded in 1977 by the employees of the SmithKline Corp. In addition to Philadelphia, Ardent serves Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Bucks counties.
