Holiday Open House and Auction set for Dec. 9
COATESVILLE >> The National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum’s annual Holiday Open House and Auction will take place on Dec. 9 in Coatesville.
This family-friendly event is very popular for its magical setting and time-honored traditions including live holiday music by the celebrated Lukens Band. One of the few brass ensemble bands in the region, Lukens Band was founded in 1911 and is known for its rousing popular tunes and classic American and German music repertoire.
Stroll the grounds of the Lukens National Historic District where luminaries will light the way and candles will glow from the numerous windows of our historic houses, each decorated with period displays. Tour guides will be stationed at both the stately 1889 Graystone Mansion and nearby Terracina, the region’s rare example of a County Gothic homestead built in 1850.
Enjoy delicious holiday refreshments and fare from Wegman’s holiday menu; visit with the knowledgeable museum staff; and make memories with this holiday annual event.
As always, children are admitted free; they can look forward to the Christmas season by visiting with Santa Claus and making holiday tree ornaments to take home.
Adults can enjoy traditional holiday music and see displays that include a decorated tree and the sweeping grand oak staircase (reminiscent of the one on the Titanic) of the Lukens Executive Office Building festooned with garlands.
Share your child’s delight with our train display, a large and elaborate “0-gauge” layout with a Christmas and winter theme. Families can also visit Santa for photographs and to share their holiday wishes.
You can also bid on a range of items in our annual online auction; they include rounds of golf, sports memorabilia, tickets to area museums, gift baskets, restaurant gift certificates, balloon rides, and much, much more.
To bid on an item from the comfort of your own home or office, visit www.32auctions. com/NISHM2022. Bidding opens on Saturday, Nov. 19, and will be open through 8 p.m. during the Holiday Open House. Visitors that evening can see a display of the photographed auction items and can bid online using the museum’s computer.
The holiday open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 9. The event is free and open to the public although a $5 donation is gratefully requested for each adult. Children are admitted free.
The National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum, located at 50 South First Ave. in Coatesville, draws international crowds to its facility, which educates the public on the people, places, products, and processes of steel making.
