Michael J. Hiriak Jr.

Michael J. Hiriak Jr., 80, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2023, after an illness of several months. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Michael J. Hiriak Sr. and Bertha (Ciemiega) Hiriak. He graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1960 and Kutztown University in 1964 with a B.Ed and in 1968 with a M.Ed. He taught math and science at Owen J. Roberts Middle School and coached High School Boys Basketball, Girls Track, and High School Boys and Girls Cross Country. He also had several Junior High Coaching positions during his career. Mike enjoyed sports and avidly followed his favorite Philly’s teams. He enjoyed playing golf and softball with many friends into his later years

Mike is survived by four much loved children and seven wonderful grandchildren: son David Hiriak and spouse, Cindy (Shotts) Hiriak and their three children; Grant, Madeleine, wife of Nate Fore, and Lauren; son Michael Hiriak and spouse, Emily (Fireovid) Hiriak and their two children, Megan and Brandon; daughter Amy (Hiriak) Dougherty and spouse William Dougherty and their two children, Will and Erin; and daughter M. Lynne Hiriak.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Barbara George and her husband, Kent George; and Gloria Strock and her husband David Strock and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all for his love of and commitment to his family.

Visitation with family and friends will take place on February 18 from 9:00 am until 10:00 at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10:00 am.
