Nutrition tastes good at Wayne Senior Center

It’s never too late to enjoy the benefits of good nutrition. Eating well, enjoying social connection­s, stimulatin­g your mind and engaging in physical activity are known to help improve your health, minimize the effects of depression and help you live longer.

There are lots of opportunit­ies to get moving, connect with peers, enjoy new meal choices and explore new interests at Wayne Senior Center this spring, including classes in drumming, tai chi, lifelong learning and even Zentangle, a popular new meditative art form.

March is National Nutrition Month and Women’s Health Month, and Wayne Senior Center is celebratin­g both through a new nutrition series.

Wayne Senior Center is offering three free nutrition classes by local Healthy Measures nutritioni­st Frances Alloway, featuring live cooking demonstrat­ions and delicious food tastings and recipe sharing. Each class will feature a different topic as well as a new cooking demonstrat­ion and recipe tasting.

• “Using Superfoods to Super Charge Your Life,” next Wednesday, 1 p.m.: In this workshop you will learn some of nature’s most powerful foods and their amazing benefits. It will also include creative and delicious ways to incorporat­e more superfoods into your life. These foods and their amazing healing properties are sure to surprise and excite you.

• “The Brain Diet — Eating for Improved Mood, Focus and Cognition,” March 15, 1 p.m.: Learn cuttingedg­e research on cognitive health and harness the power of food to improve your neurologic­al health.

• “Local, Fast, Fresh and Healthy Cooking Class,” March 29, 1 p.m.: Your local farmers market is overflowin­g with fresh produce, but maybe you aren’t quite sure what it all is or how to use it. Or maybe you’re just looking for some fresh, creative ideas. This class will highlight what’s available at the farmers market and provide some tips about how to pick the right produce, how to prepare and how to eat seasonally without spending hours in the kitchen.
