Wimmer, Padilla add more medals
Methacton senior Madison Wimmer scores silver, Phoenixville’s Kenzie Padilla medals twice
Methacton senior Madison Wimmer and Phoenixville senior Kenzie Padilla continued with strong finishes of their high school swimming careers on Day 2 of the PIAA 3A Swimming Championships at Bucknell on Thursday.
After earning individual medals on Day 1 in the 200 freestyle (Wimmer) and 100 butterfly (Padilla), they each secured another medal on Day 2 — Wimmer placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:56.01), while Padilla swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle (50.54).
“Madison swam fast,” Methacton head coach Tori Rosa said. “We are both so happy.”
Additionally, Phoenixville freshman Brynn Lewis made it to the B final in the 500 freestyle, finishing 16th with a time of 5:10.11. The Phantoms also medaled in the 400 freestyle relay, with Padilla, Lewis, senior Liza Barbash and junior Maddy Deeney placing eighth in 3:35.21.
The Owen J. Roberts’ 400 freestyle relay team of junior Kaitlyn McGuire, senior Mackenzie Gorman, freshman Meredith Hummel and sophomore Audrey Schroeder made the B final, finishing in 11th place in 3:34.61.
In the team standings, Phoenixville finished 12th out of more than 60 competing teams with 63 points. Methacton tied for 22nd with 32 points, and OJR was 24th with 28 points. North Allegheny from District 7 won the team championship with 211 points, followed by District 1’s Upper Dublin (203 points) and Hatboro-Horsham (164).
On the boys end, Spring-Ford’s 400 freestyle relay squad of senior Patrick Baganski, senior Kyle Kruppa, freshman Justin Delp and junior Nate Reagan finished 10th with a time of 3:10.18.
The Rams finished in 16th place as a team with 39 points. Owen J. Roberts tied for 38th with 13 points. A pair of District 1 squads topped the team standings, with North Penn winning the championship (204 points), followed by Conestoga (183 points).
