Hayes’ heroics help UNH to OT win

Aquillin Hayes made a half-court buzzer-beater to send the game into overtime and New Haven prevailed in the extra session with a 79-76 Northeast-10 Conference win over Saint Rose on Saturday in West Haven.

Rykema Stone hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left to put the Chargers (19-3, 13-3) ahead for good. HARVARD 65, YALE 55 >> Tamara Simpson scored 13 points and Nyasha Sarju added 14 off the bench, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs lost to Harvard in an Ivy League game in Cambridge, Massachuse­tts.

Erin McDonnell scored 18 points to lead Harvard (9-11, 2-4). Temi Fagbenle added 17 for Harvard.

Katie Werner grabbed eight rebounds for Yale (119, 5-1). QUINNIPIAC 96, RIDER 54 >> Samantha Guastella finished with 15 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal for the Bobcats in this MAAC win in Hamden.

Quinnipiac (20-3, 120) has won 10 games in a row. Val Driscoll tallied 12 points with seven rebounds and three blocks in the win. SOUTHERN CONNECTICU­T STATE 73, LE MOYNE 67 >> Five players scored in double figures to lead the Owls to this NE-10 victory in Syracuse, New York.

Sydni Lester led the way with 14 points for SCSU (1310, 10-5). Mariah Hankton and Maria Weselyj each had 13 points while Danielle Powell and Jackie Beathea chipped in with 10 points apiece. SUFFOLK 77, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 72 >> Despite 22 points and 11 rebounds from freshman Olivia Bolden, the Falcons lost this Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. Albertus is 10-11, 3-5.

Senior Luke Houston scored a game-high 23 points for the Owls in this NE-10 victory in Syracuse, New York.

Junior Deshawn Murphy had 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks, sophomore Michael Mallory had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals and junior Desmond Williams had 10 points, four assists and a team-high eight rebounds for SCSU (17-5, 12-3). ALBERTUS 113, SUFFOLK 70 >> Victor Ljuljdjura­j had 17 points and Lemar Larsen scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Falcons in this GNAC victory.

Tavon Sledge had 16 points, Eian Davis had 14 points and 11 assists and Julian Sanders added 12 points for Albertus (19-1, 13-0).

>> Jonny Ocasio scored 10 points and had eight rebounds, but the Chargers lost this NE-10 contest at West Haven.

Eric Anderson pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with six points and five assists, Jemal Mosley chipped in with nine points and Levy Gillespie added eight points for New Haven (12-10, 7-9).

Women’s hockey

NO. 5 QUINNIPIAC 2, COLGATE 0 >> Senior goaltender Chelsea Laden set the new program record for wins in a single season with her 22nd victory on Senior Day at High Point Solutions Arena. YALE 6, DARTMOUTH 2 >> At Hanover, New Hampshire, forwards Jackie Raines and Phoebe Staenz had two goals each to lead the Bulldogs to their ECAC Hockey win. Jaimie Leonoff made 28 saves for the Bulldogs (11-13-1, 8-10).

Dartmouth falls to 11-112, 7-9-2.

The Owls finished third at the Cornell Big Red Invitation­al in Ithaca, New York, with a score of 187.3.

Cornell captured first place with a score of 190.625, while SUNY-Brockport was second with a 189.425.

Junior Nicole Pruchnik led the way for the Owls on the vault, placing third with a 9.525. Taylor Rohrbaugh and Meghan Cole tied for sixth with a 9.425. Alexandra Avendano was ninth with a 9.375.

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST 7, UNH 3>> Gabby DeLeo had three hits, but the Chargers lost at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Tori Schiebe had two hits and a run and Jen Palase had an RBI for New Haven (0-3).

Women’s tennis

>> The Bulldogs fell short at the ECAC championsh­ips. After splitting the first six points at Cornell’s Reis Tennis Center, Brown clinched the win over the Bulldogs with a triumph at No. 3 singles.

Indoor track and field

GIEGENGACK INVITATION­AL >> Courtney Moshood led the Chargers by winning the 60 meters in 6.84 seconds, an NCAA provisiona­l qualifying mark and the 18th-fastest time this season, at Yale. Matthew Jeune placed second in the high jump with a leap of 2.04 meters.

Senior Ivy Watts had a first-place finish in the 500 meters in 1:14.68. URI COACHES INVITATION­AL >> Quinnipiac freshman Jessica Lee won the 60-meter hurdles as the Bobcats placed seventh out of 10 teams with 36 points.
