Teen injured in overnight head-on crash
Police: SUV traveling fast on slick roadway
HADDAM>> Aman was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle crashed into a tree in the Higganum section of town late Tuesday night, requiring extrication, according to police.
Haddam Volunteer spokeswoman Olivia Drake says emergency officials were on scene from 10:15 p.m. to nearly 3 a.m.
The collision happened near the intersection of Route 81 and Hidden Lake Road. Route 81, also known as Killingworth Road, was shut down for about two hours while the crash was investigated, state police spokeswoman Trooper First Class Kelly Grant confirmed in an email Wednesday morning.
According to Haddam Resident Trooper Enrico Milardo, the preliminary investigation reveals a 17-yearold Clinton resident was driving a Ford Explorer at a high rate of speed during heavy rainfall when he lost control and struck a tree off the southbound shoulder.
The driver was alone in the car and had to be extricated from his vehicle by Haddam Volunteer Fire personnel and emergency medical technicians.
The teen was taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance with multiple severe injuries, according to a press release.
