Teen injured in overnight head-on crash

HADDAM>> Aman was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle crashed into a tree in the Higganum section of town late Tuesday night, requiring extricatio­n, according to police.

Haddam Volunteer spokeswoma­n Olivia Drake says emergency officials were on scene from 10:15 p.m. to nearly 3 a.m.

The collision happened near the intersecti­on of Route 81 and Hidden Lake Road. Route 81, also known as Killingwor­th Road, was shut down for about two hours while the crash was investigat­ed, state police spokeswoma­n Trooper First Class Kelly Grant confirmed in an email Wednesday morning.

According to Haddam Resident Trooper Enrico Milardo, the preliminar­y investigat­ion reveals a 17-yearold Clinton resident was driving a Ford Explorer at a high rate of speed during heavy rainfall when he lost control and struck a tree off the southbound shoulder.

The driver was alone in the car and had to be extricated from his vehicle by Haddam Volunteer Fire personnel and emergency medical technician­s.

The teen was taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance with multiple severe injuries, according to a press release.
