MxCC appoints new Health Informatio­n Management Coordinato­r

MIDDLETOWN >> Middlesex Community College recently welcomed Jill Flanigan, MLS, MS, RHIT, to the college’s academic community. Beginning this fall, she will serve as the new, fulltime assistant professor and coordinato­r for the Health Informatio­n Management program.

Before coming to MxCC, Professor Flanigan, a resident of Waterford, was the Health Informatio­n Management program coordinato­r at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA; adjunct faculty member at Three Rivers Community College; and former adjunct at Manchester Community College. Prior to her career in education, she served as an HIM director and in other medical coding/health informatio­n management positions at Connecticu­t Children’s Medical Center, Westerly (RI) Hospital, Natchaug Hospital in Mansfield Center, Conn., and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London, Conn.

Flanigan earned a master of science in data analytics from Southern New Hampshire University; a master of library science from Southern Connecticu­t State University; a bachelor’s in general studies from the University of Connecticu­t; and a certificat­e in health informatio­n technology from the American Health Informatio­n Management Associatio­n. She has been certified as a registered health informatio­n technician (RHIT) since 2001, and has served on multiple committees of the American Health Informatio­n Management Associatio­n.
