Community events coming in January at museum

WATERBURY >> The Mattatuck Museum has scheduled a number of public events through the month of January for children, families and adults. Located on the green in Waterbury at 144 W. Main St., the museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fee parking is located behind the museum in the lots on Park Place.

The Mattatuck Museum is operated with support from the Connecticu­t Department of Economic & Community Developmen­t/CT Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and is a member of the Connecticu­t Art Trail, a group of 18 world-class museums and historic sites (arttrail.org). examine the intriguing Button Gallery featuring more than 10,000 buttons from all over the world.

At 1 p.m. children of all ages with their caregivers are invited to join a museum educator for a tour and participat­e in a special hands-on studio art activity, inspired by the exhibition “Components: The Art of Robert Cottingham.”

The second Sunday of every month is always free and open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Join us each month for a new theme, tour and family art activity. will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Munger Room.

Mindy Horn and Ann Mallory contribute to the rich tradition of ceramic art with vibrant and original expression­s in clay. Their works vary in size: some are delicately small, inviting close-up inspection, while others are imposing in scale.

These technicall­y and aesthetica­lly ambitious works are experiment­al in shape and dazzle in an array of glazes. Horn and Mallory will speak about their work on view in the exhibition Line and Volume: Ceramics by Mindy Horn and Ann Mallory.
