Area college students achieve recognition

IOWA FALLS, IOWA >> Marcus Deren of Middletown was among 136 students named to the fall 2016 dean’s list at Ellsworth Community College. To be eligible, full-time students must have taken 12 or more credit hours during the semester and have earned at least a 3.5 gradepoint average in classes.

Elmira College

ELMIRA, NEW YORK >> Sarah Hughson of the Moodus section of East Haddam has been named to the Elmira College dean’s list for the fall 2016 term. Full-time students who achieve a gradepoint average of 3.60 or higher at the end of a term are placed on the roll.

Ithaca College

ITHACA, NEW YORK >> Cromwell native Nicholas Gianni, a television-radio student at Ithaca College, was inducted into the Oracle Honor Society. Founded in 1928, Oracle is a historic society that recognizes academic excellence. New students who achieve a gradepoint average within the top 10 percent of undergraduates in their academic school after completing two full semesters are invited to be members.

Champlain College

BURLINGTON, VERMONT >> The following students have been named to the Champlain College dean’s list for achieving a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in the fall 2016 semester.

Jacob Burt of the Rockfall section of Middlefield is majoring in management and innovation.

Nicholas Coutu of East Hampton is majoring in marketing.

Anya Delventhal of East Haddam is majoring in professional writing.

Michael McKay of Chester is majoring in communication.

Robert Mitchell of Westbrook is majoring in game design.

Benjamin Sodergren of Killingworth is majoring in computer and digital forensics.
