CLINTON >> A local man who was allegedly caught in the act during two weekend burglaries has now been linked to more crimes, Clinton police said Monday.

Samuel Schultz, 23, is to appear in Middletown court today to answer charges in the incidents, police spokesman Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn said in a release.

Schultz has also been charged with carrying a stun gun during part of the burglary spree, but Dunn said Schultz is believed to have accidentally dropped it at one of the burglary scenes.

Schultz was arrested early Sunday after allegedly breaking into homes on Brush Hill Road and Carriage Drive. Police released audio Monday of 911 calls from those homes reporting the breakins.

In the Brush Hill Road incident, a woman woke up and allegedly found Schultz in her home. She confronted him and he fled but police tracked him to Carriage Drive about an hour later.

On Carriage Drive, a man reported Schultz was inside his home. Officers spotted Samuel fleeing through a broken garage window carrying a large bag containing several bottles of alcohol.

After Schultz’s arrest was announced, Clinton police got several calls reporting more homes and vehicles that had been broken into. Police found the stun gun while investigating one of those calls.

Schultz is now charged with felony criminal possession of an electronic defense weapon, three counts of felony first-degree burglary, three counts of felony third-degree burglary and multiple counts of third-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny, police said.

Schultz, who lives on Brush Hill Road, was being held in lieu of $46,000 bail pending his court appearance.
