TRI TOWN MEETING: The Tri-Town Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will hold its next meeting at Tri-Town Youth Services at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18. AUTHOR TALK: Author Kevin Lacz will discuss his book, The Last Punisher, on Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hubbard Room at the Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown. After graduating from Xavier High School, Kevin Lacz joined the SEALs and served alongside Chris Kyle with SEAL Team 3 during the Battle of Ramadi (which is the focus of his memoir, The Last Punisher, published by Simon and Schuster). He also went on to serve as the technical advisor to Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood for the Oscar-nominated American Sniper film and ended up playing himself onscreen in the movie. CALLIGRAPH­Y CLASS: The Deep River Public Library will be hosting a calligraph­y class on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Learn the technique for one of the calligraph­ic alphabets and become familiar with the instrument­s of calligraph­y including felt-tip calligraph­y pens, template sheets and calligraph­y paper, and leave knowing the fundamenta­ls of calligraph­y with a beautiful interpreta­tion of your name by your own hand. Ned Farrell, co-owner of the Bee Company of Clinton, is the instructor. Ned has been doing calligraph­y for years.
