CALLIGRAPH­Y CLASS: The Deep River Public Library will be hosting a calligraph­y class on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Learn the technique for one of the calligraph­ic alphabets and become familiar with the instrument­s of calligraph­y including felt-tip calligraph­y pens, template sheets and calligraph­y paper, and leave knowing the fundamenta­ls of calligraph­y with a beautiful interpreta­tion of your name by your own hand. HOPE ON THE SLOPES: the American Cancer Society’s Hope on the Slopes will be held Jan. 28, 11 a.m. to midnight at Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort in Middlefiel­d. Guests can enjoy a full day of mountain fun where proceeds from lift tickets purchased that day will benefit the American Cancer Society. Activities include skiing and snow boarding until midnight, luminaria celebratio­ns, live bands, torch runs, raffles and more. Pre-registrati­on fee is $50, or $55 at the gate.
