PRESCHOOL FAIR: A Preschool Information Fair will be held Jan. 21, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Activity Room at the Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown. Parents and their children are invited to meet representatives from local preschool programs and ask questions about curriculum and tuition. A craft area for children will be provided. READ & RECYCLE: The Friends of the Portland Library’s next intake date is Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Friends of the Portland Library will collect gently used books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and games. EXHIBIT, DEMO: The Acton Public Library, 60 Old Boston Post Road Old Saybrook, presents an exhibit of oil paintings by Daniel Dahlstrom of Chester, on display in the library gallery and the second floor Grady Thomas room through Jan. 25. SPECIAL SPEAKER: Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A., Major General Maurice Rose Post 51, will meet on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 9:30 a.m., at Congregation Adath Israel in the meeting room at the Nestor Center in Middletown. All Jewish veterans, whether they served in war or peace time, are invited. The speaker is Dennis N. T. Perkins, a graduate of the Naval Academy, who served as a Marine infantry officer in Vietnam. MEDIUM READING: The Friends of the Deep River Public Library will present Messages from Above with Love, a gallery style reading with Medium Vanessa Lynn Squeglia on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets for this event are $35 and are available at the Deep River Public Library or at the door.
