Armed robber sought in Mobil station heist
CROMWELL >> Police are asking the public to help them find a man who held up a Cromwell gas station at gunpoint early Friday.
No one was hurt in the robbery, which happened at about 3:50 a.m. at the Mobil gas station, 123 Berlin Road, also known as Route 372.
The suspect walked into the gas station and displayed a handgun to the clerk, according to Chief Denise Lamontagne. No customers were in the store, which is located about 500 feet from Interstate 91. He then allegedly took items from behind the counter before fleeing on foot eastbound. Police didn’t elaborate on what was stolen.
Middletown police and their canine unit helped investigate the holdup. The dog tried to
track the suspect but was unsuccessful, authorities say.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic white male with long brown hair who stands about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a darkcolored hooded sweatshirt and ripped blue jeans.
“We haven’t had much in terms of robberies recently,” Lamontagne said, adding that since July 1, the only other such incident was at the Liberty Bank branch at 72 Berlin Road in November.
The suspect in that crime, Gregory Dearborn, 31, of Meriden, allegedly walked into the bank, approached a teller and demanded money while implying he had a weapon, police said, but none was shown.
