Police: Intoxicated man fought with officer
MIDDLETOWN >> A Bristol man is to appear in court Friday after Middletown police say he caused a disturbance at a local homeless shelter earlier this week.
Charles R. Mishler, 54, also allegedly tried to fight with a police officer after being told Monday he was going to the hospital because he was intoxicated, police said.
Police responded to the Eddy Shelter on Labella Circle just after 10:30 p.m. Monday on a report that Mishler was being confrontational toward another resident. That incident was the second time in two hours that police had been called to the shelter for Mishler.
The victim told police Mishler had been banging and kicking on his door, trying to get into his room. Mishler was also reportedly screaming at the victim. An officer spoke to Mishler and said he appeared to be “highly intoxicated” and had trouble finishing a sentence without losing his train of thought.
The officer told Mishler he was going to the hospital and Mishler became increasing angry as they waited for the ambulance. He allegedly began screaming, banging his head against a concrete wall, then attempted to run. The officer tried to handcuff Mishler, who allegedly took a fighting stance with his fists clenched. He then reportedly had to be forced to the ground to be arrested.
Mishler, whose address was listed as Camp Street in Bristol, was charged with breach of the peace and interfering with police.
State records show Mishler has been released on $10,000 bail pending his appearance in Middletown court.
