MHS’ Carlson, Coleman set indoor marks
Indoor track and field
CCC CHAMPIONSHIPS >> At New Haven, Middletown junior Ben Carlson set a school record in the 3200 meter run while competing in the Central Connecticut Conference Indoor Track and Field championships Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
Carlson, who placed fifth, set the new mark with a time of 10 minutes and 9.06 seconds.
Senior Jalen Coleman, who broke Blue Dragons coach Rob Weston’s school record in the 800 earlier this season, placed second in the 1600 (4:35.82).
Middletown’s 4x200 meter relay team of DeShaun Bradshaw, Laurenzo Thompkins, Nico Cavaliere, and Garrett Dandridge won the CCC title with a time of 1:32.72. Thompkins was the runnerup in the 55 meter hurdles (7.87) and Bradshaw placed second in the 55 meter dash (6.65).
Glastonbury won the team title with 74.50 points. Manchester was the runner-up (59), while the Blue Dragons finished sixth with 38 points.
On the girls side, Bloomfield edged Glastonbury, 110.50-101.50 to win the title. Middletown placed 21st.
Boys swimming
MIDDLETOWN 93, FARMINGTON 90 >> At Middletown, the Blue Dragons got first place performances from Jacob Forrester (200 IM, 2:13.65), Tahj Mitchell Westberry (diving, 228.45), Tim Joy (100 Butterfly, 1:00.39), and Matt Joy (100 Backstroke, 1:04.05) in Friday’s CCC dual meet.
Farmington’s Josh Wroblewski set two pool records, winning the 200 Freestyle in 1:42.58 and the 500 Freestyle in 4:41.66.
Girls basketball
COGINCHAUG 60, PORTLAND 41 >> At Durham, Ginny Benbow sank four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, while Ashleigh Halligan also netted 19 points to lead the Blue Devils on Saturday. Tied at 20 at halftime, Coginchaug outscored the Highlanders 25-4 in the third quarter.
Carly Lane posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (8-6).
Kaitlin Capello had 11 points for Portland (5-9).
Boys basketball
CROMWELL 71, OLD SAYBROOK 64 >> Junior guard Reese Reyes scored 22 points and Noah Budzik made four three-pointers and finished with 20 points to lift the visiting Panthers (8-5) on Friday.
Connel Henderson had a game-high 23 points for the Rams (7-5).
