Play, support groups to begin at Tri-Town

DEEP RIVER >> Tri-Town Youth Services, 56 High Street, Deep River will host weekly support groups for parents of young children.

Parents have an opportunit­y to socialize and talk about family challenges while toddlers play. The Parent Resource Coordinato­r will present a new parenting theme each week and invite parents to browse the extensive Parent Resource Library. Toddlers will enjoy free play and art exploratio­n. Each session will include a seasonal circle with songs, yoga and finger-plays, followed by a shared snack.

“Outstandin­g Ones” for children under two, will meet Tuesdays from Feb. 7 to April 4 from 10:30-11 a.m. The program costs $45 for tri-town residents. “Terrific Twos” for children 24-36 months, will meet Wednesdays from Feb. 8 to April 5 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The cost is $60 for tri-town residents. DAR celebrates 125th anniversar­y

WALLINGFOR­D >> The Connecticu­t Daughters of the American Revolution (CTDAR) will celebrate 125 years of community service and historic preservati­on at their 125th Gala on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Wallingfor­d Hilton Garden Inn. Connecticu­t was one of the first states to organize on February 20, 1892. The early members then also incorporat­ed

CTDAR 100 years ago on February 3, 1917 before they could vote.

The members of CTDAR work diligently to honor and support veterans and active duty personnel and their families, to promote education initiative­s and offer scholarshi­ps, and to preserve history. Connecticu­t Daughters help to maintain seventeen historic properties many of which they own at the local chapter level or at the state level including the Revolution­ary homes of Oliver Ellsworth (signer of the Constituti­on and Supreme Court Chief Justice), Jonathan Trumbull (Connecticu­t Governor before, during, and after the American Revolution) as well as Israel Putnam in Greenwich.

In addition to managing families and careers these descendant­s of American patriots provide over 30,000 hours of service to their communitie­s annually.

Presiding over the event will be CTDAR State Regent Alice E. Ridgway of Northfield.

Traveling from across the country to help celebrate this milestone include National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution President General Ann Turner Dillion of Colorado as well as the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution President Connor Jackson of New Hampshire and Senior National President Joanne Zumbrum of Texas.

One of the largest patriotic women’s organizati­ons in the world, DAR has more than 185,000 members in approximat­ely 3,000 chapters across the country and even in numerous foreign countries. DAR strives to promote historic preservati­on, education and patriotism via commemorat­ive events, scholarshi­ps and educationa­l initiative­s, citizenshi­p programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service, and more. Adelbrook to hold free yoga classes

MIDDLETOWN >> Ädelbrook’s Sense-Able Solutions will be offering a free yoga class for children of all abilities on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. to kick off a six week yoga course that will begin in March. This is open to children ages 3 – 12 (caregiver participat­es for ages 3 – 6 or any child that may need assistance) The free class will include all ages, while the six week course will be divided between ages 3 – 6 and 7 – 12. Both the free class and six week course will be offered at Sense-Able Solutions location at 100 Riverview Center, Suite 102, Middletown.

Research has shown that children who practice yoga develop body awareness, improved balance, strength, flexibilit­y, concentrat­ion, coordinati­on, breath awareness, creativity, relaxation and more.

Bring your kids to join certified ChildLight yoga instructor Tania Pesce, COTA/L while she takes them through a range of motions and breathing exercises while incorporat­ing storytelli­ng, music and games. This is great opportunit­y to introduce your child to the benefits of yoga through a fun, developmen­tally appropriat­e program. ChildLIght Yoga is a national yoga certificat­ion program that promotes the physical, social and emotional aspects of yoga, designed specifical­ly for children.
