Foundation supports Operation Fuel outreach

HARTFORD >> The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving (HFPG) has awarded a total of $71,839 in grants to Operation Fuel for energy assistance and a grant of $5,000 for general operating expenses.

The following grants were awarded for energy assistance: $64,339 through grants from the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund; $5,000 through the Vernon D. and Florence E. Roosa Family Foundation Memorial Fund and $2,500 from the Aaron Marks Foundation Fund.

Operation Fuel also received a grant of $5,000 for general operating support through the Budd Family Fund.

Now in its 40th year, Operation Fuel is a statewide nonprofit program that provides emergency energy assistance year-round to lower-income working families and individual­s, the elderly, and disabled individual­s who are in financial crisis.

Vocal Chords scholars

MIDDLETOWN >> The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords is accepting applicatio­ns for its annual scholarshi­ps to be awarded to deserving Middlesex County students pursuing a career in nursing ormusic.

Studentsmu­st have been accepted at an accredited college or university with one of these majors.

The Review Committee will consider academic record, extracurri­cular and community service activities, the student’s ability to articulate his/her career goals and the recommenda­tions of the references. T

he scholarshi­ps will be $1,000 each and will be paid directly to the recipient at the Spring Concert at Portland High School on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Applicatio­ns are available at the guidance office or by visiting Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords Deadline is Friday, March 31. Rotary scholarshi­ps

EAST HAMPTON >> Support of graduating high school seniors as they extend their education has long been a major focus of the EastHampto­n Rotary Club.

Class of 2017 students will compete for the Eaton Smith Scholarshi­p that provides $1,000 for each of four years, plus several one-year awards of $1,000. Several scholarshi­ps are designated for community college or technical school students. Recipients may plan to attend a university, college, community college or technical school.

Applicatio­ns have been distribute­d to the guidance offices at EHHS, RHAM, Mercy, Xavier and Vinal Tech. and can also be picked up at the East Hampton Library and the Marlboroug­h Richmond Library.

Applicatio­ns should be submitted to the student’s guidance office for transcript informatio­n no later than March 1, where they will be picked up by the Rotary Club.

Applicatio­ns from those attending other schools can be returned in person, bymail, or by e-mail to Christine Costa at the address(es) listed in the applicatio­n. Late applicatio­ns are not considered.

Applicants must be residents of East Hampton (includes Cobalt andMiddleH­addam) orMarlboro­ugh but may attend any secondary school. Personal interviews will be scheduled by the Rotary Scholarshi­p Committee.

Auction donations

Forgotten Felines is looking for donated items for its upcoming silent auction, Wine for Whiskers, on April 21.

Members are looking for gift certificat­es, jewelry, paintings, prints, handcrafte­d items, donated services, tickets to concerts or events, etc.

Free concert tickets

CLINTON >> The George Flynn Classical Concerts will present Masters of Hawaiian Music sponsored by NORTHSTAR wealth partners on Feb. 19 at William Stanton Andrews Town Hall, Clinton at 3 p.m. The concert is free but tickets are required.

Tickets may be obtained by sending a self-addressed envelope to The George Flynn Classical Concerts, P.O. They will be held at the door the day of the concert.
