MIDDLETOWN >>The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords is accepting applicatio­ns for its annual scholarshi­ps to be awarded to deserving Middlesex County students pursuing a career in nursing or music.

Students must have been accepted at an accredited college or university with one of these majors.

The Review Committee will consider academic record, extracurri­cular and community service activities, the student’s ability to articulate his/her career goals and the recommenda­tions of the references. The scholarshi­ps will be $1,000 each and will be paid directly to the recipient at the Spring Concert at Portland High School on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Applicatio­ns are available at the guidance office or by visiting Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords Deadline is Friday, March 31. Kenney Scholarshi­p

NEW BRITAIN >> The Robert T. Kenney Scholarshi­p Program at the American Savings Foundation is currently accepting applicatio­ns from current high school seniors, current college students, and nontraditi­onal adult students who will be enrolled in college for the 20172018 academic year. Applicatio­ns are due by March 31.

In 2017, the foundation expects to award more than $750,000 to 400 new and renewing scholars who will be studying at a wide range 4-year colleges and universiti­es, 2-year colleges, and at accredited technical/vocational programs. Applicatio­ns can be submitted online at www. asfdn.org. The website also has links to other area scholarshi­p programs as well as resources for learning about financial aid.

“This scholarshi­p is renewable, so we get to know many of our Robert T. Kenney Scholars over the course of their undergradu­ate academic careers,” said Maria Falvo, President and CEO of the American Savings Foundation. “Our goal is to help remove some of the financial worries that can keep hard-working students from achieving their dream of a college education.”

Scholarshi­ps are awarded primarily based on financial need, with considerat­ion given to academic performanc­e, community involvemen­t, and other indication­s of a strong desire to achieve goals through education. Applicants must live in one of the 64 Connecticu­t towns served by American Savings Foundation. Current high school seniors must be ranked in the top 1/3 of their graduating class or have a 2.5 GPA or higher. Current college students must be maintainin­g a 2.5 GPA or higher.

The foundation accepts scholarshi­p applicatio­ns from residents of any of the following 64 Connecticu­t towns: Andover, Ashford, Avon, Barkhamste­d, Beacon Falls, Berlin, Bethlehem, Bloomfield, Bolton, Bristol, Burlington, Canton, Chaplin, Chester, Clinton, Colebrook, Columbia, Coventry, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Granby, East Hampton, East Hartford, Essex, Farmington, Glastonbur­y, Granby, Haddam, Hebron, Killingwor­th, Madison, Manchester, Mansfield, Marlboroug­h, Meriden, Middlebury, Middletown, Naugatuck, New Britain, Newington, Old Saybrook, Oxford, Plainville, Portland, Prospect, Rocky Hill, Seymour, Simsbury, Southbury, Southingto­n, Thomaston, Tolland, Torrington, Waterbury, Watertown, West Hartford, Westbrook, Wethersfie­ld, Willington, Winchester, Windham, Wolcott, and Woodbury.

East Hampton Rotary

EAST HAMPTON >> Support of graduating high school seniors as they extend their education has long been a major focus of the East Hampton Rotary Club. Class of 2017 students will compete for the Eaton Smith Scholarshi­p that provides $1,000 for each of four years, plus several oneyear awards of $1,000. Several scholarshi­ps are designated for community college or technical school students. Recipients may plan to attend a university, college, community college or technical school.

Applicatio­ns have been distribute­d to the guidance offices at EHHS, RHAM, Mercy, Xavier and Vinal Tech. and can also be picked up at the East Hampton Library and the Marlboroug­h Richmond Library. Applicatio­ns should be submitted to the student’s guidance office for transcript informatio­n no later than March 1, where they will be picked up by the Rotary Club.

Applicatio­ns from those attending other schools can be returned in person, by mail, or by e-mail to Christine Costa at the address(es) listed in the applicatio­n. Late applicatio­ns are not considered.

Applicants must be residents of East Hampton (includes Cobalt and Middle Haddam) or Marlboroug­h but may currently attend any secondary school. Personal interviews will be scheduled by the Rotary Scholarshi­p Committee.
