Students can apply for annual scholarships
MIDDLETOWN >>The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords is accepting applications for its annual scholarships to be awarded to deserving Middlesex County students pursuing a career in nursing or music.
Students must have been accepted at an accredited college or university with one of these majors.
The Review Committee will consider academic record, extracurricular and community service activities, the student’s ability to articulate his/her career goals and the recommendations of the references. The scholarships will be $1,000 each and will be paid directly to the recipient at the Spring Concert at Portland High School on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Applications are available at the guidance office or by visiting Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords Deadline is Friday, March 31. Kenney Scholarship
NEW BRITAIN >> The Robert T. Kenney Scholarship Program at the American Savings Foundation is currently accepting applications from current high school seniors, current college students, and nontraditional adult students who will be enrolled in college for the 20172018 academic year. Applications are due by March 31.
In 2017, the foundation expects to award more than $750,000 to 400 new and renewing scholars who will be studying at a wide range 4-year colleges and universities, 2-year colleges, and at accredited technical/vocational programs. Applications can be submitted online at www. asfdn.org. The website also has links to other area scholarship programs as well as resources for learning about financial aid.
“This scholarship is renewable, so we get to know many of our Robert T. Kenney Scholars over the course of their undergraduate academic careers,” said Maria Falvo, President and CEO of the American Savings Foundation. “Our goal is to help remove some of the financial worries that can keep hard-working students from achieving their dream of a college education.”
Scholarships are awarded primarily based on financial need, with consideration given to academic performance, community involvement, and other indications of a strong desire to achieve goals through education. Applicants must live in one of the 64 Connecticut towns served by American Savings Foundation. Current high school seniors must be ranked in the top 1/3 of their graduating class or have a 2.5 GPA or higher. Current college students must be maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher.
The foundation accepts scholarship applications from residents of any of the following 64 Connecticut towns: Andover, Ashford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Beacon Falls, Berlin, Bethlehem, Bloomfield, Bolton, Bristol, Burlington, Canton, Chaplin, Chester, Clinton, Colebrook, Columbia, Coventry, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Granby, East Hampton, East Hartford, Essex, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Haddam, Hebron, Killingworth, Madison, Manchester, Mansfield, Marlborough, Meriden, Middlebury, Middletown, Naugatuck, New Britain, Newington, Old Saybrook, Oxford, Plainville, Portland, Prospect, Rocky Hill, Seymour, Simsbury, Southbury, Southington, Thomaston, Tolland, Torrington, Waterbury, Watertown, West Hartford, Westbrook, Wethersfield, Willington, Winchester, Windham, Wolcott, and Woodbury.

East Hampton Rotary
EAST HAMPTON >> Support of graduating high school seniors as they extend their education has long been a major focus of the East Hampton Rotary Club. Class of 2017 students will compete for the Eaton Smith Scholarship that provides $1,000 for each of four years, plus several oneyear awards of $1,000. Several scholarships are designated for community college or technical school students. Recipients may plan to attend a university, college, community college or technical school.
Applications have been distributed to the guidance offices at EHHS, RHAM, Mercy, Xavier and Vinal Tech. and can also be picked up at the East Hampton Library and the Marlborough Richmond Library. Applications should be submitted to the student’s guidance office for transcript information no later than March 1, where they will be picked up by the Rotary Club.
Applications from those attending other schools can be returned in person, by mail, or by e-mail to Christine Costa at the address(es) listed in the application. Late applications are not considered.
Applicants must be residents of East Hampton (includes Cobalt and Middle Haddam) or Marlborough but may currently attend any secondary school. Personal interviews will be scheduled by the Rotary Scholarship Committee.
