Free agent Hightower meets with Jets

- By The Associated Press

Free agent linebacker Dont’a Hightower, who helped the New England Patriots win two Super Bowls in his five NFL seasons, has visited with the New York Jets.

The New York Jets are interested in signing a big free-agent prize away from an AFC East rival.

Free agent linebacker Dont’a Hightower has visited the Jets, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.

Hightower, one of the most-coveted players in free agency this year, has helped the New England Patriots win two Super Bowls in his five NFL seasons. Hightower, a Pro Bowl selection last season, met with the Jets on Sunday and Monday, according to the person who spoke Monday to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the visit.

CBS Sports first reported Hightower’s meeting with the Jets on Sunday night. ESPN reported on Monday that Hightower was next scheduled to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL Network also reported that Hightower has already met with Tennessee.

Peterson visits Seattle

Adrian Peterson visited the Seattle Seahawks, while his original team in Minnesota hosted fellow free agent running back Eddie Lacy.

There’s still a path for Peterson to return to the Vikings, but the signs of his potential departure haven’t stopped popping up.

Peterson was at Seahawks headquarters on Sunday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the details weren’t being made public. This was Peterson’s first in-person meeting with a team since the Vikings declined their option on his contract for 2017 and made him a free agent for the first time.

Foles to Philly

Nick Foles is returning to the city where he had his most success.

The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to terms on a twoyear contract with Foles, bringing him back to serve as the backup quarterback for Carson Wentz two years after former coach Chip Kelly traded him to St. Louis.

The 28-year-old Foles was drafted in the third round in 2012 by Philadelphia under Andy Reid. He thrived under Kelly a year later, going to the Pro Bowl after having one of the best statistical seasons in NFL history. Foles threw 27 touchdown passes and only two interceptions in 10 starts while leading the Eagles to an NFC East title that season.

Wreh-Wilson re-signs

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed backup cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson to a one-year, $775,000 deal.

Wreh-Wilson, who attended UConn, is the seventh Atlanta player from the 2016 NFC championship team to be re-signed or have his contract extended.

Ellington re-signs

The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed running back Andre Ellington to a one-year contract.

Ellington, the backup to David Johnson, has played all four of his NFL seasons with Arizona after being drafted in the sixth round out of Clemson in 2013.
