Rockfall Foundation, Jonah Center to present program
MIDDLETOWN >> The Jonah Center for Earth and Art and The Rockfall Foundation invite the public to learn about plans to increase the number of trees in Middletown and to make streets safer and more inviting for walking and bicycling.
The program will take place 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the deKoven House, 27 Washington St., Middletown. The main presenters will be Jane Harris, chairperson of Middletown’s Urban Forestry Commission, and John Hall, co-chair of Middletown’s Complete Streets Committee.
Come to learn how you can help make improvements in your own neighborhood by increasing the number of trees, slowing traffic, and making streets more usable for walkers, bicycle riders and wheelchairs. Progress is already happening around Middletown. Join others in these efforts.

Military Whist planned
MIDDLETOWN >> The Emblem Club will sponsor a Military Whist on Thursday, March 30, 7-9:30 p.m. at the Middletown Lodge of Elks #771, Maynard Street, Middletown. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $7 and includes refreshments. Tickets will be sold at the door or may be reserved in advance.
Military Whist is a card game played in groups of four, requires no previous experience. Bring your own group of four, or join a group forming when you arrive.
Kevin Welch, renowned Whist coordinator in the area, will lead the games, explaining how to play throughout the evening. Round up your friends and or family and enjoy an evening of fun.
Plenty of free parking is available and is handicapped accessible.

Tickets for free concert
CLINTON >> The George Flynn Classical Concerts will present a concert featuring Alexei Tartakovsky, pianist at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the William Stanton Andrews Town Hall located on Main St. in Clinton.
The George Flynn Classical Concerts will also be presenting the Yale Percussion Group on April 9t, at 4 p.m. at the New Morgan School Auditorium, on Route 80 in Clinton.
The concerts are free, but tickets are required and may be obtained by sending a selfaddressed stamped envelope to The George Flynn Classical Concerts, P.O. Box 473, Clinton, CT 06413, or you may call 860669-1208, leaving your name, phone number and the amount of tickets you require and they will be saved for you to pick up the day of the performance. Sale benefits Camp Care
COLUMBIA >> The Hebron 4 H Horse Club is organizing a Fundraising Tack Sale on Saturday April 1, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Camp Care’s indoor arena. The sale will benefit Camp Care Therapeutic Riding Center of 106 Route 66 East in Columbia. 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go to benefit their Therapeutic Riding Program.
In preparation for the sale, the club is accepting new and gently used horse tack, horse care items, riding apparel and horse related.

Applications available for Sal Salafia award
MIDDLETOWN >> The Sal Salafia Community Service Award invites students to apply for this year’s scholarship, a $1,000 award given to a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated excellence in community service.
The student must attend a secondary school in Middletown (Middletown High School, Vinal Tech, Mercy or Xavier) and have performed the service in Middletown. Applicants must provide a detailed description of the service they performed, how their lives were affected and why it deserves recognition, in the form of an essay prepared by the student in 750 typed words.
A brief letter from the organization that benefited from the community service must also be provided as well as a letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor and signatures from the student and a parent or guardian.
Students must have maintained at least a (3.0) B average over the years and provide a transcript.
