The team is coming off a 6-0 regular season and tied Berlin for the CCC-South title in the conference meet. It might to tough to duplicate that this time around.
Acting coach Deb Pitruzzello said her key returnees are seniors Jen Barbour (relays, long jump), Brielle Wilborn (shot, javelin), Veronica Meyer (shot, discus, javelin, hammer), and juniors Leeashia Daniels (relays), Aliyah Hayes (discus, shot), Nasharie Davis (400, relays, high jump), Mackenzie Dunn (long jump, 400), Maddy Vianney (long jump), Amelia Sessoms (relays, sprints) and Lexi Gonzalez (distance).
Pitruzzello also said the team has a large group of freshmen and has more distance runners than in recent seasons.
“This can be a good team if not stretched too thin,” said Pitruzzello. “We will need contributions from some newcomers and the older girls need to demonstrate leadership skills and perform to their capabilities to defend their title.”
