Middletown sweeps Platt in boys tennis

The Middletown boys tennis team recorded its first win of the season, sweeping Platt 7-0 Thursday in a Central Connecticu­t Conference match.

Singles: Payton White def. Josue Gomez 6-1, 6-1; Harish Patel def. Mattias Azana 6-1, 6-1; Joel Morales def. Mahmoud Hasson 6-2, 6-0; Dylan Myers def. Softball

HALE-RAY 9, COGINCHAUG 3 >> Callie Burke went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBIs, and Aidan Fiala singled, walked, scored two runs and drove in another to lead Hale-Ray (5-0, 5-0 SLC).

Burke also had a stolen base for Hale-Ray. Winning pitcher Katrina Ceceri improved to 5-0.

Melissa Grenier was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Natalie Labasi 1-for-3 with two stolen bases for Coginchaug (1-2, 1-1 SLC). EAST HAMPTION 19, PORTLAND 2 >> Lindsay Dickerman picked up the win for East Hamption.

Jessica Cohen had three hits and three RBIs for East Hampton and Rachel Vickery had two hits, including a three-run homer;.

Meg McLaughlin had three hits and scored four runs.

Bridget Reddington scored two of Portland’s runs and had a double.

Wednesday Baseball

PORTLAND 3, VALLEY REGIONAL 1 >> Connor Murray doubled in two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored the third run on a hit by Ty Bordonaro to lead Portland.

Ford Lyman went six innings for Portland, scattered three hits, and did not allow an earned run for Portland (3-2).

Colin Sparaco struck out 11 for Valley Regional (2-3). HADDAM-KILLINGWOR­TH 17, CREED/HILLHOUSE 0 >> Ben Alonzo and Kyle Crandall each had three hits, while Trevor Rydel, Tyler Popp and Owen Marica had two to lead HK.

Jonathan Browne had three hits for Creed/Hillhouse. CROMWELL 4, HALE-RAY 2 >> David Dewey (1-1) picked up the win for Cromwell (3-3), which scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

Connor Egan (0-1) pitched for Hale-Ray (03), which scored both of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
