Local students earn honors
DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA >> Delaware Valley University announces the following area students have enrolled for the fall 2017 semester: Patrick Rioux of Cromwell and Sara Weekes of Clinton.
Eastern Connecticut State University
WILLIMANTIC >> A group of Eastern Connecticut State University students was recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, Eastern’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history. They include Taryn McCabe ‘18 of East Hampton, whose major is history and social science.
Delaware Valley University
DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA >> Delaware Valley University has announced that Claire Laroche of Middletown earned a bachelor of science degree in floriculture and nursery production from Delaware Valley University in December 2016.
Lasell College
NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS >> Area student leaders, including Alexis Quiles of Middletown, have been selected to be part of 2017 Laser Link orientation at Lasell College. Their role will be to create a welcoming environment for all of the new members of the school community.
Orientation leaders participate in an extensive training program throughout the spring semester, which continues the week prior to the summer and fall orientation program. They are trained in institutional information, group dynamics and student development issues.
School Spirit Awards
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE >> Middletown High School has been selected as a finalist for the Varsity Brands 2017 School Spirit Awards in the best booster club category.
The booster club award honors a motivated group of parents who support their school’s athletic program with dedication and enthusiasm. This booster club works in cooperation with team coaches to make sure every player on the team has the resources necessary to succeed. This group organizes team-building events (dinners, banquets, etc.), attends games and serves as positive role models to the students they serve.
Winners will be announced at the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards in May hosted by Olympic Gold Medalist Laurie Hernandez.
Dickinson College
CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA >> Daniel James Day, a senior environmental science major at Dickinson College, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. A graduate of Haddam-Killingworth High School, he is the son of James Day and Theresa Kidd of Haddam.
University of Maine
ORONO, MAINE >> The University of Maine recently recognized students for achieving dean’s list honors in the fall 2016 semester. Those chosen completed 12 or more credit hours in the semester and earned a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Susquehanna University
SELINSGROVE, PENNSYLVANIA >> Cathrina Kothman of Killingworth was recently named to Susquehanna University’s dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. The roll recognizes students who achieve a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. To qualify, students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Kothman, a music composition major in the Class of 2019, is a 2015 graduate of Haddam-Killingworth High School and the daughter of Tom and Riana Kothman.
Nazareth College
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK >> Nazareth College announces its dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.
Emily Pattavina of Higganum is studying communication science & disorders.
Sierra Taylor of East Hampton is studying music education.
A student’s grade-point average must be at least 3.5 or above and he or she must complete 12 credit hours of graded work that semester to be included on the list.
