Wesleyan Potters to hold festival
MIDDLETOWN >> Wesleyan Potters’ annual Spring Sale and Festival returns this year to Mother’s Day weekend, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Wesleyan Potters studios, 350 S. Main St., Middletown.
Work by more than 30 artists will feature unique gift ideas just in time for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation and the bridal season.
Shoppers will find affordable, one-of-a-kind pottery, handcrafted jewelry, and handwoven fabrics created by artists from all parts of Connecticut. People who have shopped at previous Wesleyan Potters sales will recognize work by many of their favorite artists, and all shoppers will find unusual gifts not found in big box stores. The Spring Sale and Festival is the only time when bargain hunters can buy “seconds” at irresistible prices.
Demonstrations of pottery making, jewelry making, and handweaving are scheduled throughout the day. Demonstrating pottery will be John Lipsky; jewelry, Cindy Koniushesky, Linda Jones, and Laurie Mongillo; and demonstrating weaving will be Elaine Dimplefeld, Joyce Frederick, Mary Ellen Nocera, and Elise Cotrone. So, grab a bag of popcorn, watch the demos, register for door prizes, and browse the sale.
The Gallery Shop will be open during the sale and, until May 14, features the work of Wesleyan Potters jewelers, Maureen Brady, Sue Dickinson, and Mike Foster, and potters, Denise Duda and Kathy Newell.
Parking for the event is in the rear of the building, around the block on Birdsey Avenue. The Sale and Festival is free and open to the public. All proceeds benefit local artists and the Wesleyan Potters Fundraising and Scholarship Funds. Wesleyan Potters is a nonprofit craft school and artist cooperative.
