‘Aging Veterans’ care event set in Middletown
MIDDLETOWN >> Aging Veterans and Poly-Trauma: Examining the Mental Health of Aging Veterans from a Human Ecology Perspective, will be held 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the The Crystal Ballroom, Middletown Elks Club, 44 Maynard St., Middletown.
The event is hosted by the Gatekeeper School for Holistic Aging and Ecological Integration. Unique Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Workshops for Geriatric Social Service Professionals are available.
Using a human ecology theoretical perspective, this professional forum will provide continuing education and comprehensive discussion on fundamental aspects of social determinants of aging veterans’ mental health concerns relative to poly-trauma: PTSD, traumatic brain injury and dementia.
Presentations include “The Interrelations of Poly-Trauma and the Importance of Post-Deployment Care” by Dr. Adam Perrin, M.D., assistant professor, Department of Family Medicine, UConn School of Medicine; “Healthy Aging: Intersectionality, Trauma and the Social determinants of Health” by Dr. Catherine Medina, Ph.D., LCSW, associate professor, University of Connecticut School of Social Work; and “Social Work Do’s & Don’ts in Working with Aging Veterans” by Eric S. Rodko, BSW, LMSW, executive director, St. Luke’s Community Services.
