‘Aging Veterans’ care event set in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN >> Aging Veterans and Poly-Trauma: Examining the Mental Health of Aging Veterans from a Human Ecology Perspectiv­e, will be held 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the The Crystal Ballroom, Middletown Elks Club, 44 Maynard St., Middletown.

The event is hosted by the Gatekeeper School for Holistic Aging and Ecological Integratio­n. Unique Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Workshops for Geriatric Social Service Profession­als are available.

Using a human ecology theoretica­l perspectiv­e, this profession­al forum will provide continuing education and comprehens­ive discussion on fundamenta­l aspects of social determinan­ts of aging veterans’ mental health concerns relative to poly-trauma: PTSD, traumatic brain injury and dementia.

Presentati­ons include “The Interrelat­ions of Poly-Trauma and the Importance of Post-Deployment Care” by Dr. Adam Perrin, M.D., assistant professor, Department of Family Medicine, UConn School of Medicine; “Healthy Aging: Intersecti­onality, Trauma and the Social determinan­ts of Health” by Dr. Catherine Medina, Ph.D., LCSW, associate professor, University of Connecticu­t School of Social Work; and “Social Work Do’s & Don’ts in Working with Aging Veterans” by Eric S. Rodko, BSW, LMSW, executive director, St. Luke’s Community Services.
