Warm Children wins Community Foundation grant
MIDDLETOWN >> The citybased charity that helps children of low-income families outfit them with warm winter clothing has earned a $2,000 grant.
The Kiwanis Foundation of Middletown received the funds from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County and will use the monies to support the Warm The Children program.
The Kiwanis’ nonprofit organization Warm The Children provides new winter clothing for local children in need — from birth through age 15. Each child is allotted up to $80 for new clothing; $60 if under age 4.
The CFMC grant will be used entirely to purchase new winter clothing and footwear, according to Lynn Baldoni, coordinator of the Middletown Kiwanis program. “This grant will enable us to serve at least another 25 children in the upcoming winter season,” she said.
CFMC represents local people, giving locally to make an impact on the lives of others, according to a press release, by working with charitably minded individuals and organizations to build permanent endowments and other charitable funds. These funds support local nonprofit organizations through grant making to address community needs, it continues.
This grant is made possible, in part, through the CFMC/Chuck and Rachel Wiltsie Fund, William McCann and Best Cleaners Fund, Preston Family Fund, Patti Anne Vassia Fund and the Jan Ellen Youngblood Fund.
Since its founding in 1997, the CFMC has provided 1,815 grants totaling more than $5.4 million to organizations for the arts, cultural and heritage programs, educational activities, environmental improvements and for health and human services.
