CHURCH AUCTION: St. John Church, Cromwell 19th annual auction will be held on Saturday, May 20 at the church at 5 St. John’s Court, Cromwell. The silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and a live auction with auctioneer Bill Barrows begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person until May 14. After that, they are $30 in advance or at the door. FAKE NEWS: A special program on fake news will be presented in Russell Library’s Hubbard Room, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. Fake News: Can you spot it? is a collaborat­ion between the Central Connecticu­t State University (CCSU) Journalism Department and Reference and Instructio­ns Librarians at CCSU’s Elihu Burritt Library. It began as an hour-long interactiv­e workshop delivered on April 9th and 12th, designed to define fake news and develop strategies to fight it.

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: A Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Valley Regional High School in Deep River on Friday, May 26 at 8:45 a.m. This traditiona­l ceremony has taken place for over forty years at the high school in front of the World War II memorial on the school green next to 12 trees that were planted in honor of men from the town of Deep River who gave their lives for our country during the war. The program is organized by the school’s social studies department in collaborat­ion with the High School Principal, Michael Barile. During this school wide outdoor assembly at the memorial, two student speakers Emily Telensky and Rhyan Nedobity will read essays reflecting on the meaning of the occasion.
