BOYS LACROSSE: 5 PLAYERS TO WATCH

- — Dan Nowak

• Adam Cohen, D, Darien: While the Blue Wave are noted for its high-scoring attackers, defense is another strength. “He’s the best defenseman in the state,” Darien coach Jeff Brameier said of Cohen. He is a big reason Ridgefield was limited to 12 shots on goal in the FCIAC tournament final that Darien won 20-4. Cohen was also named FCIAC tournament MVP and will play in college at Notre Dame. • Ryan Cornell, G, Darien: An All-American last season, he is considered one of the top goalies in the country and is another solid component in the Blue Wave’s defense. He had seven saves in the 20-4 win over Ridgefield in the FCIAC tournament final and is one of many reasons Darien enters the CIAC Class L tournament 18-0. • Ryan O’Connell, M, New Canaan: The offensive-minded middie is one of the strongest components on a team loaded with depth, talent and experience. He has a combination of work ethic, speed, field vision and precision shooting that makes him formidable around

the net. Committed to play at North Carolina, he is one reason the Rams are favorites to win their third straight Class M title.

• Michael Hawkins, A, Glastonbury: One of the top attackmen in northern Connecticut, he enters Class L with 55 goals, 29 assists and 59 ground balls. “Mike has great quickness, a very crafty stick and is very tough to defend,” Glastonbury coach Scott Hinchey said. “He has great finishing skills. He prides himself on being strong at riding and helping gain extra possessions for our team.” He is committed to play at Colgate. • Chris Brown, A, Fairfield Prep: One half of the Jesuits’ 1-2 scoring punch with Mitch Savoca, Brown showcased his scoring and playmaking ability in the recent SCC boys lacrosse tournament. He had four goals and five assists in a 12-8 win over Cheshire for Prep’s second straight SCC title and 13th overall. Brown has committed to play at Princeton.
