Zobrion to lead hike at former resort

EAST HADDAM >> As part of the 2017 Connecticut Trails Day Weekend, State Rep. Melissa Ziobron will host an educational walk in East Haddam on Sunday, June 4 from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The hike, led by Larry Johnson, formerly of Sunrise Resort, will teach hikers about the long history of the property which was once the home to three very successful resorts. Participants are encouraged to bring kayaks. Quiet Kayak of East Haddam will be available, as an option, to rent kayaks.

Interested participants should meet ¼ Mile from the entrance from Sunrise State Park. Follow the signage for Rep. Ziobron’s Trails Day Walk.

Those attending will walk along the existing paved roadway, where they will meet with former employees and guests to talk about the historic sites and former buildings, experiences, and stories from the resorts heyday.

Friends of Machimoodus & Sunrise State Parks will also be available to explain about their organization and the future hopes for the park and current offerings. Participants are encouraged to bring kayaks. Quiet Kayak of East Haddam will be available, as an option, to rent kayaks.
