Middletown gets past Wallingfor­d

MIDDLETOWN » Cole Neidmann’s bases-loaded, walkoff single gave Middletown Post 75 a 3-2 win over Wallingfor­d in a Zone 3 game played at Palmer Field Thursday evening.

With the win Middletown improved to 7-0 in the zone and 10-2 overall.

With the game tied 2-2, Keith LaChance reached on an error with one out. Pinch-runner Billy Egan went to second on a wild pitch and back-to-back walks to Tim Dickson (intentiona­l) and Ben Alonzo loaded the bases for Neidmann, who dropped a pop-fly single between the drawn-in infield and the left-fielder to win the game.

Scott Marks (2-0), who pitched the sixth and seventh, got the win. Middletown used four pitchers.

The hit by Neidmann was only the fourth of the game for the 75ers and was the first since the third inning. Wallingfor­d (3-4) had eight hits.

Wallingfor­d got a run in the first on a single by Brendan O’Connell and one in the fifth on another RBI single by O’Connell (2-for-4). Anthony Cretella (2-for-4) scored both Wallingfor­d runs.

Middletown got a run in the second when Dickson, who doubled, scored on a wild pitch. The 75ers got their second run on an infield single by LaChance in the third.

Middletown is home with Wallingfor­d again Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and visits Meriden for a doublehead­er Sunday at 11 a.m.
