Middletown, Meriden split a pair
MERIDEN » In a battle of Zone 3 unbeatens, Middletown and Meriden split a Sunday doubleheader with Post 75 winning the nightcap 8-1 after losing 4-1 in the opener.
Scott Marks (3-1) went six strong innings to get the win.
Leadoff hitter Cal Pitruzello had a hit and four stolen bases, Connor Cardi was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Ben Alonzo was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Jack Higgs knocked in two on a 2-for-4 day.
“We were flat in the first game,” said coach Tim D’Aquila. “But we bounced back in the second.”
Danny Botti started and lost game one. Meriden is 9-1. Middletown — 9-1 in the zone and 12-4 overall — beat Wallingford 4-2 Saturday at Palmer. Sebby Amenta got the win in relief of Sean Lenehan who pitched the first four. Wallingford fell to 3-5. Middletown will host Madison in a Zone 3 double header Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. At Palmer Field.
