New development director brings wealth of community activism to post

- By Kevin Wilhelm Kevin Wilhelm is CEO and president of the Middlesex United Way in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN » At Middlesex United Way, we find ourselves working very closely as a team, often relying on each other to reach our goals. Today it is with great pleasure that we get to announce the start of the newest member of our team, Justin Wilkie.

Justin comes to us from the Connecticut Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America, where he was a district executive serving Middlesex County for the past year. Before that, he worked for the Compass Group-Chartwells Higher Education Dining for five years.

Justin was promoted several times since starting with the organization. In his most recent role, Justin was responsible for leading fundraising efforts, retaining volunteer recruitment and serving as a leader to over 2,000 youth and adult volunteers. Some of his successes include implementing two different day camps for Boy Scouts in Middlesex County, raising new money through sponsorships and attendance for various community campaigns and creating lasting relationships with donors and volunteers.

Justin’s past experience as a district executive will transition perfectly into his new role as development director at Middlesex United Way. He will be using his leadership, fundraising and interpersonal skills to help us achieve organization goals. Justin will be responsible for initiating, implementing and expanding development strategies. Some of his first tasks at hand are to begin to develop solid relationships with current and prospective donors and learn about the Middlesex United Way’s funding process, priorities and partners.

“I am very excited to be joining the Middlesex United Way,” he said. “In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, fishing, hiking, reading and cooking. I am looking forward to meeting the amazing people connected to the Middlesex United Way and bringing a whole lot of good to the Middlesex community.”

Justin holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Connecticut State University and is an active member of the community. He is on the Middletown Rotary Club Board of Directors and an active Boy Scout volunteer.

We are so pleased to have Justin join our team. His values mirror our values and his connections throughout the county will help strengthen existing relationships and create new ones. He is a dynamic, hard-working person of great integrity.

Please join us in welcoming Justin. He can be reached at Justin.wilkie@middlesexunitedway.org or 860-346-8695.
