Middletown Fireworks Festival is tonight
MIDDLETOWN » The City of Middletown’s Fireworks Festival will be held today, 6-10 p.m. along the bank of the Connecticut River at Harbor Park and on the front lawn of the City Hall at 245 deKoven Drive, Middletown. Live music begins at 6 p.m. with Sweet Daddy Cool Breeze and the legendary original drummer for the Allman Brothers Band, Jaimoe.
Following up the blues will be the Boston-based Cubaninfluenced salsa dance music of Los Sugar Kings. It’s summertime and the music fits the heat!
The evening winds up with live music from the Middletown Symphonic Band, which will perform patriotic music through the entire Fireworks Display! The Fireworks Display will be shot on the CT River and the approximate start time is 9:30 p.m. These performances take place on deKoven Drive.
From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Middletown High School Jazz Ensemble will perform an extended set at the Harbor Park location.
Parking is free in city parking lots and Main Street.
Food vendors will be located on lower Court Street, DeKoven Drive and Harbor Drive.
Road Closures: 10 a.m.11 p.m. on DeKoven Drive at Washington Street: (no southbound traffic) ; 2-11 p.m., Court Street (between Melilli Plaza and Dekoven Drive); and 7-11 p.m.,
Harbor Drive and DeKoven Drive. Dingwall Drive will be closed between Metro Square and DeKoven Drive; Martin Luther King Way, closed between Metro Square and Dekoven Drive; River Road: closed between Harbor Drive and Walnut Street; Eastern Drive: between Silver Street and River Road (southbound traffic only), with access to Eastern Drive via Walnut Street to River Road.
From 5 p.m. on, no parking will be permitted in the upper Riverview Arcade parking lot.
Parking is available on Main Street, Melilli Plaza Parking Lot, Municipal Parking Lots on Broad Street, Commuter Parking Lot (Eastern Drive) and Connecticut Valley Hospital Grounds, with handicapped parking in the South Parking Lot on Harbor Drive; and Upper City Hall Parking Lot.

Registration open for annual road race
EAST HAMPTON » The 19th Annual East Hampton Old Home Days Glorious Gallup 5K road race will take place Friday, July 7 at 7:15 p.m.
Applications are available online at www.ehohd.org or www.thelastmileracing.com.
Registration is also available on Thursday, July 6 on the fairgrounds from 6-10 p.m. and Friday, July 7 in the school gymnasium 5:00- 6:45 p.m.
Early Bird registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 13. The day of the race, registration is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 13. T-shirt and bumper sticker will be given out while supplies last. The Glorious Gallop 5K is a point-to-point race starting at Seven Hills Crossing, around the lake, and ending at the fairgrounds. Shuttle buses are available starting at 6 p.m. with the last shuttle leaving at 6:45 p.m. After the race enjoy the carnival and all kinds of food and beverages as well as free entertainment until 11 p.m. Saturday morning July 8, the parade begins at 11 a.m.
Campground to host night of music
EAST HADDAM » Grand View Campground invites all for a night of DooWop, Motown and Rock n’Roll on Saturday, July 29 from 7 to 11 p.m.
“Dance the Night Away” with music by The Sharades, a well-known Connecticut oldies band covering favorite dance tunes from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Proceeds to benefit the East Haddam Democratic Town Committee.
Practice your “Peppermint Twist,” “The Stroll,“and “Stray Cat Strut.” “Rock Around the Clock” and “Get Ready” for “Feelin’ Alright.”
The campground is located at 89 North Moodus Road, in the Moodus section of East Haddam. Bring your own beverages. Setups provided.

Tag sale donations wanted
EAST HAMPTON » Epoch Arts, 27 Skinner St., East Hampton, is accepting donations for its annual tag sale. Epoch not only provides the community with a two-weekend tag sale, but the community helps support the youth programs at Epoch from all the tag sale proceeds.
Couches, car seats, encyclopedias, TV’s, cribs, computers, mattresses and large exercise equipment are not accepted.
