Annual golf classic to benefit students
HAMDEN » The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce will hold its 24th annual Scholarship Golf Classic July 24 at the New Haven Country Club, 160 Hartford Turnpike.
Eight scholarship students will be recognized at the event, according to a release. The GOAL scholarship program, administered by the GNHCC, “strengthens the connection between the business community and New Haven area college students and young professionals by helping to create a top-notch workforce in the 21st century,” the release said. The golf classic and scholarship fund have awarded more than $70,000 to students since 1995, according to the release.
“We are inviting golfers and businesses to join us in creating an entire day geared toward supporting our youth’s education,” Tony Rescigno, president of the Greater New Haven Chamber, said in the release. “It’s a great opportunity for people to relax and enjoy a day of golf, while giving back to the community.”
Cost for a foursome is $1,100 and includes a full day of activities including a round of golf, free golf shoes, a gift bag, lunch, reception, and a buffet dinner. Donations to the scholarship fund can be made at GNHCC.com. Businesses can join the tournament and also donate funds through sponsorships. Inkind donations are welcome and all donated promotional items will be displayed or handed out to an estimated 175 business professionals. Donations to the scholarship fund are made through the Foundation of the Greater New Haven Chamber and are tax exempt; 100 percent of donations will go directly to the scholarship recipients, the release said.
