- Kevin Wilhelm Columnist Kevin Wilhelm is president and CEO of the Middlesex United Way in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN » The Middlesex United Way Young Leaders Society will hold its second annual Putts for a Purpose charity miniature golf tournament Aug. 11 at Torza’s Golf in Cromwell. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature one round of miniature golf, dinner, drinks and the opportunity to network, all for a worthy cause.

All the proceeds raised from the event will benefit Middlesex County schools to purchase supplies. Each $25 ticket includes a round of miniature golf, dinner and one draft beer. Following the success of last year’s event, The Middlesex United Way Young Leaders Society have worked hard to ensure another successful outing.

Teams of four and individuals are encouraged to sign up. Experience is not required, as prizes for both the lowest score and the highest score will be given out. This year’s event is made possible by our presenting sponsors: Disaster Restoration Services, GN Construction, LLC, and Best Cleaners, as well as Torza’s Golf and Taphouse 150 for hosting us again. If you would like to find out more information about sponsoring a hole, please contact Amanda Furlong at Amanda.furlong@middlesexunitedway.org or 860346-8695.

Last year’s event raised more than $1,900, and sold out quickly. As an attendee of last year’s event, I can promise you this is one you do not want to miss. Not only is it for a great cause, but you will also be surrounded by a group of hardworking young professionals. I am so proud of our Young Leaders Society for stepping up to support local kids! To RSVP, please visit middlesexunitedway. org/yls/events or call 860346-8695.

If more networking opportunities are appealing to you, the Young Leaders Society will also be cohosting a joint happy hour event Thursday at Camps Restaurant in Middletown. The event is free and complimentary appetizers will be served, along with $6 drink specials all night. This happy hour event is open to all young professionals, and is hosted by the Middlesex United Way Young Leaders Society, Connecticut Young Professionals, Middlesex Chamber Young Professionals Alliance, The Urban Professionals Network, Greater Middletown Young Democrats, and Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a live band kicking off at 6:30.

The Young Leaders Society is a group of committed, young professionals (40 and under) who are working together to advance the common good. Dedicated to growing the spirit of philanthropy, community advocacy, volunteerism and leadership, the group provides opportunities for networking, learning and leading, and volunteering.
