Man sentenced in connection with overdose from heroin
HARTFORD» Amanwas sentenced Monday to 30 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing heroin.
Yacov Ocasio, 21, was also ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
Middletown police and emergency medical personnel responded Aug. 26, 2016, to a Middletown apartment on the report of a possible overdose. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive 28-year-old man lying in a bed. He was pronounced dead despite medical intervention, police said.
Officers found and seized one torn small plastic bag, commonly used to package heroin, from the victim’s pants pocket as well as the man’s cellphone, officials said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the man died from acute heroin and fentanyl toxicities.
An investigation revealed the man had arranged to buy heroin the day before from Ocasio and then drove to Hartford to complete the purchase, officials said.
In November 2016, investigators conducted a controlled purchase of heroin from Ocasio.
Ocasio was arrested on a federal criminal complaint Jan. 18.
On Feb. 24, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin.
