LYONS, EDWARD P., JR.

-

The world lost a kind and generous heart on Monday August 28, 2017. Edward Patrick Lyons Jr., passed peaceYale fully, surrounded by his family at New Haven Hospital. He had suffered a recent health complication which he faced bravely, never complained and had impeccable manners and concern for those around him until the end. The end came too soon for all of us. Edward was born November 18, 1937. He was born at home, the family home on Wheatland Ave. in Chicopee Falls, MA to Edward Patrick Lyons Sr. and Elizabeth Mary Green Lyons. His Aunt Helen Green was the midwife at his birth. He grew up in a hardworking, tightknit family and was proud of his Irish American heritage. After graduating from Chicopee H.S, where he excelled at football, he felt the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and headed to Parris Island. He served in Okinawa, Korea and Quantico, VA. Where his envious methodical organizational skills made him the perfect person to help teach other Marines how to use and repair their firearms. He was a machinist for Monsanto for 35 years. Edward was a friend to everyone and enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved a busy house filled with children and laughter, having his daughters and grandsons around made him the happiest. His recliner chair, newspaper, a Red Sox game and a bowl of ice cream was a must. He had a quick wit and a hearty infectious laugh. He cherished his memories of his many trips to his beloved Ireland. He was a member of St. Marks Church. Edward is survived by his wife of 51 years Marion, whom he lovingly referred to as “his bride”. DaughMichael ters Pamela Lyons Lachance and her husband of Chester and Susan Lyons Fanslau and her husband Harry of East Haddam.
