Cops: Stopped for speeding, duo arrested after giving false names
MIDDLETOWN » Two individuals were arrested Friday after they allegedly gave officers false names.
Darrinisha Sheridan, 27, of Vine Street, Hartford, and Robert Pitts, 31, of Gaines Drive, Hartford, were each charged with criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer and possession of marijuana.
Pitts was later charged with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and traveling fast.
According to the report, an officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and initiated a motor vehicle stop, then asked Pitts, the driver, and Sheridan, the passenger, for identification.
Pitts gave a false name and birthday and Sheridan claimed not to have identification, police allege. Sheridan gave a different name, showing the officer a rental agreement on her phone for the vehicle under that false name, police said.
Police allege the car smelled of marijuana, but Sheridan and Pitts claimed they did not have any. After a search, officers say they found a driver’s license issued to Pitts inside the car.
Pitts claimed he lied about his identity because he believed he may have a warrant for his arrest, according to the report. A check revealed Pitts’ license is suspended, and he had three outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said.
Both parties were arrested. Police allegedly found 0.5 grams of a marijuana cigarette in one of Pitts’ socks and 2.66 grams of marijuana in a baggie concealed in Sheridan’s pants.
After being fingerprinted, Sheridan was identified and then said she lied about her identity because the rental car agreement was not in her name, according to authorities.
Sheridan was held in lieu of a $10,000 bail and issued a court date of Sept. 19. Pitts was released on a $5,000 bail, turned over to Hartford Police and issued a court date of Sept. 21.
