12 students commended by National Merit Scholarship
MIDDLETOWN — Xavier High School students Maxwell J. Carmichael, Gian S. Civitello, Kyle R. Cook, William C. Crawford, Ryan T. Curry, Michael D. Galati, Christopher M. Gould, Maximilian K. Kessler, Andrew J. Mahr, John J. Marcin, Noah A. McGuinness and Kevin M. Ryff were recently chosen as Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these seniors, according to a press release.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for exceptional academic promise, the release continues.
Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, these students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“The young men and women being named Commended students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” a spokesperson for NMSC said in the news release.
“These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
