Access Health rates stay same for 2018

- By Tara O’Neill

Access Health CT’s Board of Directors confirmed Thursday that 2018 plan rates will not change, despite the president’s announcement to stop federal cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies.

The federal payments are used to reimburse carriers for the cost of subsidies that reduce outof-pocket health care costs for low-income consumers.

“AHCT has been preparing for months to make sure that insurance plans are available for Connecticut residents, regardless of whether the administration in Washington, D.C., decides to take this action,” said CEO Jim Wadleigh.

The cost-sharing reduction plans purchased through AHCT will be available for eligible customers in 2018.

The necessary funding to continue these plans will be covered by an increased premiums on other plans and higher premium tax credits.

“With these changes, it’s even more important for consumers to shop wisely to make sure they are getting the best plan, and financial help, for themselves and their family,” Wadleigh said.

AHCT has open enrollment from Nov. 1 to Dec. 22 for customers looking for coverage plans. Wadleigh said the plans offered by AHCT are lower cost-wise than plans sold offexchange.

“Customer who are eligible for financial assistance will also receive increased premium tax credits to help pay for higher rates,” Wadleigh said.
