EAST HADDAM — After an intense, two-day search, authorities have arrested a 34-year-old town man on attempted murder, kidnapping and related felony charges.

State police from Troop K in Colchester said Jared Rennie, 34, of East Haddam Colchester Turnpike is the suspect in an assault that took place Sunday in East Haddam between two individuals who knew one another.

Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime unit and members of the State Police Tactical Team tried to serve the arrest warrant Sunday evening but were unable to find Ritter at his home, according to a release.

Authorities believed Rennie may have had access to a firearm, police said.

Ritter turned himself in at Troop K Tuesday on a warrant charging him with attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping, cruelty to persons, stealing a firearm, criminal use of a firearm or electronic defense weapon, criminal possession in violation of a restraining order, second-degree assault, and threatening, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint, all in the first degree.

The warrant has been sealed by the court, according to the report.

Rennie is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail and is due back in Superior Court at Middletown Tuesday.

In 2006, Rennie pleaded no contest to first-degree assault in the death of a learning-impaired 38-year-old Norwich man, according to the Norwich Bulletin.
