Newly elected officials sworn in
MIDDLEFIELD — Several recently elected town leaders took their oaths of office Monday in a ceremony at the community center.
More than 100 citizens took part, including state Rep. Buddy Altobello, DMeriden, and Judge Joseph D. Marino of Middletown. The oaths of office were administered by Town Clerk Donna Golub. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by outgoing Selectman Jon A. Brayshaw and the invocation by the Rev. Frank Gilbert of the Dioceses of Norwich, according to a press release.
Sworn in were First Selectman Edward P. Bailey for a second term, Selectmen Robert Yamartino and David Burgess, Tax Collector Anne. L. Olszewski, Treasurer Taryn Ruffino, Board of Finance members Melissa Kowal, David Lowry and Joel Nick, and Board of Assessment Appeals members Nancy Currlin and Robert Liptak.
“Middlefield and Rockfall is a truly a unique and precious place,” Bailey said, according to the release. We are a small rural community offering our citizens a great place to live, work, play, and to raise and educate our families. I have always felt strongly that what makes Middlefield such a great place to live is that it retains a rural feel, with our farms, open spaces and small-town atmosphere.
“Add to this the great people who live here and we really have a community of unique character and strong fabric. To reach our goals, the angles and nuances must be properly vetted to get it right so that our town’s character and fabric is maintained,” he added.
“To this, my administration is committed,” Bailey said.
