EAST HAMPTON — Authorities arrested a 27-year-old Barbados man this week for his alleged part in a December 2015 home invasion on Route 151 in Middle Haddam.

Shane Lashley was charged with home invasion and conspiracy to commit home invasion, firstdegree burglary and conspiracy to commit firstdegree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixthdegree larceny on a warrant Wednesday.

During the incident, a 74-yearold man and his 72-year-old wife were asleep on the second floor when they were awakened by the barking of their dog at about 11 p.m., according to police.

That evening, the homeowner was met by two “ninja-clad” men, both of who were carrying knives, according to a warrant. He confronted the suspects, grabbed a mirror from one and threw it at him, the affidavit said. The two fled as the victim was getting a firearm from a safe, the report detailed.

Lashley, who had been a suspect in the case since 2015, left the country and refused to return, according a press release from East Hampton Police Sgt. Timothy Dowty. Lashley went to Barbados in December 2015, days after speaking with investigators, he said.

Immigration services in Canada stopped Lashley and detained him earlier this year and U.S. marshals

delivered him to local officers, Dowty said in the release. Transportation Security Administration staff from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security helped move Lashley, who was arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown Thursday.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond for a Jan. 8 court appearance.

Lashley is one of four suspects in the case, the release said. Two previous arrests were made and authorities are still pursuing another individual.

In mid-October 2016, Steven Maringola, 28, of 18 Maromas Road in Middletown, was charged with home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, firstdegree burglary and sixthdegree larceny. Maringola was convicted of first-degree trespass and sixth-degree larceny Nov. 29, according to judicial records.

That March, police arrested 33-year-old William Andre Colton ,of Norwich, on conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit sixthdegree larceny. Colton was released on a $75,000 bond and due back in court Jan. 9.

Local police worked with investigators and attorneys at the office of the state’s attorney in Middlesex County, the U.S. State Department and U.S. marshals on the case.
