Area students earn accolades

National Honor Society

NORTH HAVEN — Three area students were recently inducted into Alpha Eta, the health science honor society at Quinnipiac University: Sara Giangrande of Essex, a diagnostic medical sonography major; Darcy Firebaugh of Middletown and Thomas Coman of Portland, both health science studies majors.

Alpha Eta was founded in 1973 to recognize scholarshi­p in allied health students in conjunctio­n with the American Society of Allied Health Profession­als at Emory University in Atlanta. Students inducted into the society must exhibit superior academic performanc­e in the field of health science and in overall academic performanc­e. The society offers students opportunit­ies to network with other health science profession­als.

Eastern Connecticu­t State University

WILLIMANTI­C — Eastern Connecticu­t State University students recently gathered for English Night, an event that showcases student excellence in the English department. The event featured a scholarshi­p awards ceremony, the Sigma Tau Delta induction and three capstone seminar presentati­ons.

Brianna Crysler ‘19 of Moodus, who majors in English; Shannon Dobney ‘18 of Clinton, whose major is elementary education and liberal studies; Jessica Dontigney ‘18 of Durham, who is majoring in English; Katrina Messerschm­idt ‘19 of East Hampton, whose major is elementary education and liberal studies; and Caryn Sibiskie ‘18 of Rockfall, an English major, were awarded.

Pomfret School

POMFRET — Hugh Barrett of Durham, class of 2020, was named to the fall 2017 honors list at Pomfret School recently. To achieve this distinctio­n, he earned a grade-point average of at least 3.33 and received no grade lower than a B-.

Students named to the president list earned a grade-point average of 3.67 and received no grade lower than a B for the fall 2017 term. They include Joshua Stielau of Middletown, class of 2020.

Hudson Valley Community College

TROY, New York — Arielle Dufour of East Hampton was named to the fall 2017 dean’s list at Hudson Valley Community College. Dufour is studying in the nonmatricu­lated academic program at the college.

The dean’s list recognizes full- and part-time students registered for at least six college credits who have a term average of 3.00 to less than 3.50 and who received no grade of D,F,I,Z or Won their record for that term. Students must have completed at least 12 college credits successful­ly.

Champlain College

BURLINGTON, Vermont — The following students have been named to the Champlain College dean’s list for achieving a gradepoint average of 3.5 or higher in the fall 2017 semester: Nathaniel Hart of Old Saybrook, Brandon Ledyard of Clinton, Christophe­r Lynch of Middletown, Robert Mitchell of Westbrook, Benjamin Nicholas of Haddam, Kenneth Pho of Portland, Kevin Rode of Portland, Matthew Shelto of East Hampton and Benjamin Sodergren of Killingwor­th.

Students on the falll 2017 president’s list for achieving a grade-point average of 4.0 or higher are: Jacob Burt of Rockfall and Anya Delventhal of East Haddam.
