Author of ‘A Home Called New England’ to speak in Essex
ESSEX — New England has a rich and varied architectural history. Although it has changed much through the centuries, it remains a place that even the Colonials might still recognize.
Through a collection of photos, illustrations and stories, “A Home Called New England” explores the architectural history of the region from the earliest first period houses that were mostly postmedieval (saltboxes and capes), to refined Georgian, on through Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic, Italianate, Empire, Stick Style, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and to the present. The book follows the history and evolution of the houses and the people that grew out of New England. On Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Essex Library, author and architect Duo Dickinson will share stories and images from this remarkable region. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
Dickinson is an architect based in Madison, with more than 30 years of professional practice. He has designed more than 700 projects with budgets ranging from $5,000 to $5,000,000. He is the author of seven books on residential design.
