Upchurch helps UNH upend AIC
Danny Upchurch scored 30 points n Senior Night to help the University of New Haven men’s basketball team defeat American International 98-48 Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference game at West Haven.
Mihailo Vasic added 13 points for the Chargers (16-9, 12-7), who secured the No. 3 seed in the NE-10 tournament. AIC dropped to 11-6, 6-13.
Johnson & Wales 93, Albertus Magnus 77: Jarell Lawson led the way with 28 points for Johnson & Wales (16-9, 13-3), which handed Albertus Magnus (19-5, 15-1) its first loss in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at Providence, Rhode Island.
Jaqhawn Walters had 32 points and 15 rebounds to lead Albertus.
Pace 67, Southern Conn. 60: Greg Poleon led five players in double figures with 18 points for Pace (8-19, 4-15) in a NE-10 win at Pleasantville, New York. Isaiah McLeod and Taurus Adams II had 20 and 18 points, respectively, for the Owls (15-11, 11-9).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Yale 69, Harvard 63:
Roxy Barahman had 20 points and eight assists for Yale in an Ivy League win at New Haven.
Jen Berkowitz added 17 points for the Bulldogs (13-10, 6-4). Harvard dropped to 14-9, 6-4.
Southern Conn. 53, Pace 50: Kiana Steinauer recorded here 12th doubledouble (15 points, 14 rebounds) to help Southern Connecticut (20-8, 14-6) in an NE-10 win at Plesantville, New York.
New Haven 73, AIC 61:
Alexandria Kerr finished with a game-high 29 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and added 12 rebounds for New Haven (12-13, 7-12) in a NE-10 win at West Haven. Dana Watts led AIC (12-15, 6-13) with 19 points.
Abby Hurlburt added 13 points for the Owls. Pace dropped to 15-12, 11-8.
Albertus Magnus 69, Simmons 68: Olivia Bolden had 26 poinmts and 16 rebounds to lead Albertus Magnus (17-7, 11-5) to the GNAC win at New Haven.
MEN’S LACROSSE
No. 15 Villanova 10, No. 5 Yale 9 (OT): Danny Seibel scored with 20 seconds left in overtime for Villanova in this non-conference season opener at Villanova, Pennsylvania. Ben Reeves had four goals and three assists for Yale.
Quinnipiac 12, Brown 11: Mike Fletcher scored four goals for Quinnipiac (1-1) in a non-conference win at Hamden.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Yale 12, Albany 10: Kayla Duperrouzel and Vanessa Yu both scored three goals for Yale in its season opener at New Haven.
Brown 18, Quinnipiac 7: Risa Moosenthal had six goals for Brown in the nonconference season opener for both teams at Providence, Rhode Island. Emily Byne scored three times for Quinnipiac.
