GMChorale’s ‘Alchemy’ to perform March 11
MIDDLETOWN — GMChorale will present a special concert by Alchemy, with 24 voices comprised of both members of the chorale and professional singers, in its first full season of concerts across Connecticut on Sunday, March 11, at 4 p.m. in Orange.
“Already recognized for its vocal beauty, subtleties and power, the ensemble’s unique sound adapts stylistically and interpretively to a broad variety of repertoire. The name “Alchemy” was taken in recognition of the ancient, mystical art of creating gold through transformation and refinement,” members said in a statement.
This season’s program, “We Shall Begin to Shine,” showcases Alchemy’s versatility and artistry with a program of a cappella and accompanied choral music by Schumann, Brahms, Bruckner, Duruflé, Britten, Vaughan Williams, Mulholland, Thompson, and Clausen.
Accomplished pianist Allan Conway will accompany the voices of the GMChorale Chamber Singers.
Performed in two churches known for their appealing acoustics and commitment to music, this program will be an auditory feast.
The concert will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 4 p.m. at the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meeting House Lane, Orange. Admission is a donation at the door.
Alchemy is funded, in part, by a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County and with support from the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
