Top-ranked Fairfield Prep holds off Hamden

Carter Kral scored at 1:44 of the third period to give No. 1 Fairfield Prep a fourgoal lead and the Jesuits held off a late Hamden rally for a 4-3 SCC/SWC Division I win at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport on Saturday.

No. 6 Hamden scored three goals in the last 8 minutes, 37 seconds of the third period as the comeback fell short. Tyler Routh, Bryce Riccitelli and Michael Gethings scored for the Green Dragons. Steven Rurner had 24 saves for Hamden.

Connor Boyle, Calyb Reeves and Skyler Celotto also scored for the Jesuits. Jack McGee had 26 saves.

Guilford 8, Hand 4: Jack Ring had a hat trick and an assist, Jake Watrous added two goals and an assist and John Delucia had two goals to lead the Indians to their SCC/SWC Division II win at DiLungo Rink in East Haven.

Mete Yanbul and Will Boender combined for 23 saves for the Indians (17-3). Paul Gagliardi and Tom Paraiso each had a goal and an assist for the Tigers (5-13).

BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 1 Sacred Heart 76, No. 8 Seymour 48: Raheem Solomon and Isiah Gater scored 27 points each to lead No. 1 seed Sacred Heart to its NVL tournament quarterfin­al win at Wilby High in Waterbury. Adam Frosceno had 17 points and Jaylen Crawford added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals for the eighth-seeded Wildcats (12-9).

No. 1 East Hampton 64, No. 8 Coginchaug 26: Tom Close had 19 points to lead East Hampton its Shoreline Conference tournament quarterfin­al win in East Hampton. Maquire O’Sullivan led the Blue Devils with nine points.

No. 6 Valley Regional 60, No. 3 Old Lyme 35: Colin Sparaco scored 13 points to lead the Warriors to their win in the Shoreline Conference tournament quarterfin­als at Old Lyme. Mitch Holdmeyer added 12 points and 14 rebounds and Ben Weinsten had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors (14-7).

GYMNASTICS

Hand, Mercy finish second: Wilton edged out defending champion Hand 136.175-134.475 to win the Class M state championsh­ip at Southbury.

Erin Naclerio finished with a 9.35 in floor exercises and a 9.125 on beam for Hand.

In Class S, Woodstock Academy won the title. Mercy finished at 132.8 and Oxford third (130.5).
